Depending on your customized plan, H.E.L.P. can be received almost anywhere. The dramatic results you will experience with this program can be achieved without any equipment. As a matter of fact, Todd likes to say "No equipment, No problem"! H.E.L.P. incorporates exercises and techniques from effective training disciplines known around the world that use no more than your bodyweight and science to help you achieve your fitness goals. We can, however, design a program that makes use of any equipment you have at home; or if you already belong to a gym, we can work out there (*as long as they allow independent personal training); or we can meet at an agreed upon location in the beautiful outdoors of San Diego. Personally, I recommend the great outdoors for our training ground. Being out in nature and training in the elements is a time-tested, proven way of connecting to and liberating your personal power.
Wherever you choose to receive H.E.L.P., rest assured the program will be custom designed to meet your personal goals and fit as easily as possible into your schedule and lifestyle! Often times, all you need is 30 to 60 minutes a day three times a week to get started on your way to a happier, healthier you.
*There will be an additional charge for any guest pass that may need to be purchased at your gym, as well as $1 per minute travel time (there and back) for sessions outside of the La Jolla / Torrey Pines / UTC area.

One day, while at college football practice, Todd severely wrenched his back. Having overcome injuries before, he did not expect nor foresee the difficult road to recovery that lay before him. The trainers, coaches, and doctors all gave advice and protocol for him to follow, however none of this proved to be effective and his condition did not improve. The powerful muscle relaxants he was prescribed combined with his inability to move properly increased the tension and pain. So, he began taking medication for the pain. Not being able to enjoy athletics, as he had for fifteen years, nor compete on the national level with his fellow teammates, he started to slip into a depression and began gaining weight. Todd suffered with his injury and pain for more than a year and a half. During this time he gained over forty pounds of fat and his feelings of being powerless to manage his health led him to withdraw from college. Todd thought he had hit his low point. As it turned out, he had a little further to go.
One evening, while reminiscing with about better times over drinks with a former teammate, Todd got on a motorcycle to go back to his apartment and he did not make it back. Having poorly navigated a turn at twenty-five miles per hour, Todd had smashed into parked car. He had mixed muscle relaxants, pain-relievers, and his depression with alcohol to create the final elixir of his life -
or at least life as he knew it.
The loud crash from the accident alerted those nearby to the accident and they quickly called for help. When the police officer arrived at the scene he was aware that an ambulance was already on it's way. Upon seeing the mangled mess in the middle of the road, It seemed quite certain that there was no longer any life left in it. The officer quickly contacted the Fire Marshall and told him that he believed they were going to have to pronounce Todd dead at the scene.
The ambulance arrived and quickly transported Todd to the hospital. His injuries were severe and he was close to death. He had shattered his left femur in five places, he had lacerations all over his face from where he had struck the windshield of the parked car and destroyed his helmet, and he had lost a tremendous amount of blood, but he was still alive. They were not sure if he would make it. And, if he did, they were not sure if he would be able to walk again - at least not normally.
Todd was in the operating room for almost five hours, during which time he had a metal rod inserted into his femur that was held in place with several screws. After the operation he stayed in the hospital for two weeks of observation and tests. When he was released from the hospital he went to live with his parents while he recovered and he was fitted with an orthopedic brace for his leg that he would have to wear for at least several months. This was the deep dark abyss of Todd's life. This is where he had to ask some hard questions and look at how and why things had come to be as they were.
During his recovery, Todd immersed himself in all that he had learned about fitness training, exercise, sports nutrition, and injury rehabilitation. He used his martial arts training in meditation and energy work to begin tapping into his inner wellspring of healing and vitality. He read day and night and began incorporating new and effective techniques to help give him the edge he needed to fuel his body, calm his mind, and align his spirit with once again becoming whole. He had a second chance and he was going to make the most of it.
Todd re-enrolled in college. He continued to use his knowledge and experience in kinesiology, fitness, meditation, and nutrition to develop his own rehabilitation program. Using his own self-designed program, he improved quickly and was cleared for two subsequent operations to have the rod and screws in his leg removed. Family, friends, and doctors were amazed at the speed and totality of his recovery. Todd's self-designed recovery program was so effective in rehabilitating his leg that he required no prescribed physical therapy.
This was just the beginning. There was more to heal than just his body. Now, Todd had to look at the reasons behind all that he had allowed to happen in his life. He re-invested his time into uncovering all he could about why we choose to do the things we do in our lives as well as how we choose to create ways that support ourselves in doing these things - whether beneficial or detrimental.
Todd's quest led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Psychology and Philosophy and a minor in Business Communication from the State University of New York at Albany . He re-dedicated himself to his study of the martial arts and energetic bodywork, specifically Chi Kung and Tai Chi, and he studied intensely for four years with his teacher from the Shandong Province of China. His passion for
nutrition and the healing power of food led him to enroll in the Culinary Institute of America where he became an award-winning graduate (with honors) and worked as a professional chef for fifteen years at notable restaurants around the country. After he paid for the medical costs incurred by his accident, he began to investigate progressive techniques in health and fitness such as
therapeutic massage and
energetic bodywork. His passion for Tai Chi and Chi Kung,
Shiatsu,
Reflexology, and
Reiki led him on a path that would see him invited to study the Ancient Hawaiian Healing Arts and
Lomilomi, from a lineage of the Kahuna, on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Todd's lifelong commitment to healing and his mission to help others to do the same for themselves, led him to open a therapeutic massage and bodywork business with his partner Erinn Fraser. This business, The Joyful Body Inc., became affiliated with the University of Michigan Health System. He worked with numerous individuals recovering from a variety of concerns that included; chronic pain, anxiety and stress, diabetes, joint replacement, injury and trauma, cancer, lupus, and more. His work also greatly benefited those who wished to maintain their current health and wellness, as well as individuals who were already functioning at a high level of fitness and wished to further enhance their performance. Todd now lives in San Diego and is a licensed Holistic Health Practitioner and a Certified Personal Trainer for the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The results he has seen from this work have inspired him to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy so he can bring his knowledge and experience of healing to more people.
